A Parable in Two Miracles
|
Eternal life is like the miracle healings of two young ladies in the gospels (Mark 5:25-42). Jesus was on his way to the house of Jairus, a synagogue official, to heal his twelve year old daughter who lay dying, when a young lady who had been sick with internal bleeding for twelve years reached out to touch Jesus. Instantly she was healed. In the meantime, the daughter of Jairus had died; but Jesus arrived at the house, entered the room where the girl lay dead and restored life to her.
This is the meaning of the two miracles: The first young lady was ceremonially unclean by Jewish law (Lev.15:25-31) and represents a sinner who is sick with sin but is cleansed by the blood of Jesus upon reaching out to Him by faith (Rev.1:5). The resurrection of the second young lady represents the rebirth in Christ of the spiritually dead sinner (John 3:3). Together, these two miracles illustrate the two aspects of spiritual baptism---the washing away of sin by the death of Jesus and our new life by His resurrection (Rom.6:4).
